2D drawing still has very strong importance in interior design and architecture. 2D floor plans are often seen as the easiest and most cost effective way to understand a floor plan/design even by a layman. Majority of shops (carpentry, cabinetmakers, custom interior fabricators, stair manufactures, glass specialists) also prefer usage of 2D drawings. 2D drawings are portable, easy to share, it is easy to make notes on them and finally they provide a concise view of the info you need. Detailed 2D documentation often represents only one phase within a broader residential project.
